When the city charter was adopted in 1962, Lewisville's biggest draw was the fact that it offered a 23,000-acre lake barely 20 minutes from the hustle and bustle of downtown Dallas. Lake Lewisville remains the area's greatest recreational resource, enticing over 6 million visitors annually to enjoy sailing, skiing and fishing on the big reservoir. The lake, with 103 miles of shoreline, is the areas largest, and offers a 550-acre park that includes a golf courses. Lake Lewisville offers numerous boat ramps, a swimming beach and fishing barge. Off-water facilities include nature areas, picnic facilities abd oernight camp sites. For spectators, the lake offers sights a plenty. It is a popular sailbourding lake, with practitioners of this athletic cross between surfing and sailing congregate at Sailboard Point in Lake Lewisville Park.
But Lewisville, long known only for its big lake, is not home to 53,000 and coming into its own culturally and economically as well as recreationally. For land lovers, Lewisville offers performances by the Lake Lewisville Symphony, the LakeCities Ballet,, the Lake Cities Community Chorus, and much more.
